About Ruth Sorokin
I was born and raised on a remote farm in South Africa, and immigrated to California in 1988.
Growing up isolated encouraged me to use my imagination, to create my own diversions and entertainment.
This helped foster a creative career, first in the apparel industry, later in Interior Design and more recently Pastry Arts.
I initially began painting under the guidance of an art teacher whom I consulted for conceptual direction while in the clothing industry.
Since then I continue to compose my art from a unique perspective, I use unorthodox methods and solutions to express myself. I am inspired by the conventional and I take pleasure in devising unusual techniques and interpretations of my subjects.
I prefer to approach my art obliquely, from an idiosyncratic perspective to create a challenge for myself and capture the interest of the viewer.
